Stoma World Kenya
I am a married semi-retired business man and colon cancer survivor since 2009. Born and bred in Kenya 🇰🇪 and educated in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, I have developed a deep passion for serving the community, particularly those facing similar health challenges as I have experienced.
My journey with colon cancer and living with a stoma has given me first-hand understanding of the physical, emotional, and social challenges that ostomates face daily. This experience has fueled my commitment to improving the quality of life for other ostomates across Kenya.
As Chairman of Stoma World Kenya (SWK), I lead our organization's efforts to provide support, resources, and advocacy for the ostomate community. Under my leadership, SWK has grown to support over 600 members across the country, establishing the first stoma clinic in Eastern Africa and winning the World Ostomy Award in 2022.
My personal experience as a colon cancer survivor gives me unique insight into the challenges faced by ostomates. Through my leadership role at SWK, I strive to ensure that no ostomate in Kenya has to struggle alone. My business background has enabled me to develop strategic partnerships and initiatives that have significantly expanded our organization's reach and impact.
I am particularly proud of our achievements in advocating for policy changes that benefit ostomates, including the inclusion of ostomy supplies in Kenya's Social Health Insurance Fund and the recognition of permanent colostomy patients as persons living with disabilities.
My vision for SWK is to continue expanding our reach to every corner of Kenya, ensuring that all ostomates have access to quality healthcare, affordable supplies, and the support they need to live with dignity and confidence.
